Dévaluée par les écrivains et les poètes du xixe siècle, elle connaît son âge d’or au tournant du siècle grâce à l’engouement que montrent les impressionnistes pour les paysages aquatiques et fluviaux. Il faut attendre la Belle Époque et son euphorie, le regard neuf d’une diaspora étrangère, ainsi qu’une révolution poétique qui décentralise le sujet et se focalise sur les espaces où il évolue, pour réhabiliter la Seine et en faire un mythe moderne. A recurring motif in the urban literature that was formed around Haussmannian Paris, the Seine with its waters, its banks, the railway activities that cross it, builds its own myth around an artistic and poetic destiny. Devalued by the writers and poets of the 19th century, it experienced its golden age at the turn of the century thanks to the enthusiasm shown by the Impressionists for aquatic and river landscapes.
