Les œuvres analysées accentuent la dimension architecturale de la « machine duelle » aux dépens de son utilité pratique comme moyen de transport. Or, l’auto-mobilité qui caractérise la roulotte en bois tirée par des chevaux transpose sa dynamique sur les habitants des maisons roulantes lors de la halte au locus rom. Les protagonistes continuent ainsi un voyage intérieur qui les force à transformer leurs consciences. The article explores the literary representation of the nomadic living-wagon by comparing its significance in the auto-representational œuvres of the sintizze Philomena Franz and Sandra Jayat, as well as in the hetero-representational work of Alain-Fournier. The works emphasise the architectural dimension of the mobile houses as “dual machines” to the detriment of their practical usage as a means of transport.
